As programming director of the St. Louis Park Friends of the Arts (FOTA), Tammy developed three years of the Our Town Community Arts program.
Verses & Voices focused on a year of poetry. Our role included creating the program and implement all the aspects such as: selecting a Community Poet, offering poetry jams, managing a Renga (Japanese poetry form that utilizes hundreds of lines of poetry from community members) that became a spoken word piece, hosting free poetry writing workshops, and managing a Favorite Poems Contest (committee selected top 12 that were featured with their nominators in the city calendar sent to 20,000 residents). This initiative was featured in multiple Star Tribune articles and garnered new members and supporters for FOTA.
The second Our Town focused on drumming and featured live performances by several different drumming styles at Wolfe Park: MU DAIKO, Buckets and Tap Shoes, and The New Primitives. We also hosted free drumming workshops and drumming circles in the community parks during the summer.
Our Town: Art & Nature will kick off in May at the Ice Cream Social and feature a summer of art making workshops focused on the connection between art and nature. We added an Artist Salon series for professional artists in the community and a partnership with the library for a featured book series on art and nature. The program culminates in a city-wide art exhibit at West End, St Louis Park, MN in September.
